ABSTRACT
Reasons for weakness and fatigue in systemic lupus erythematosus are not recognized sufficiently by medical science. In the presented study socio-cultural aspects of fatigue were reconstructed from a unique collection of letters written during 9 years by a young woman with lupus. Suffering from serious chronic disease, she described in her own words the important decision-making process faced with the choice between woman’s role in traditional rural society and the risk of exhausting fatigue having a negative influence on the course of her disease. The scientific tool of the undertaken analysis was the behavioral sciences method of personal documents.
