ABSTRACT
Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease, in the course of which involvement of the circulatory system is one of the common systemic manifestations, very important from the prognostic point of view. Involvement the heart affects most commonly pericardium and valvular system; myocardium is affected rarely. Patients with SLE have a high risk of early atherosclerosis in the form of coronary disease and myocardial infarct. Unlike in the general population, risk factors of cardiovascular complications in the SLE patients are mainly antiphospholipid antibodies, duration of the disease, duration of glucocorticoid therapy, as well as lipid disorders, anti-oxLDL antibodies, and high levels of CRP, a1-antitripsin and homocystein. Own observations on cardiac manifestation in the SLE patients and serological risk factors related to cardiac involvement are discussed in the paper.
