ABSTRACT
Autoinflammatory diseases are a group of hereditary inflammatory disorders. Their pathogenesis involves innate immunity. This differentiates the diseases from autoimmunologic disorders related to disturbed self-tolerance and adaptive immunity. Autoinflammatory and autoimmunologic diseases are considered, however, as an immunologic disease continuum. A number of symptoms and signs of autoinflammatory diseases are commonly seen in rheumatic patients and it is suggested that the diseases are more common than previously estimated.
