ABSTRACT
Diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is still delayed by 5-7 years. The proposed diagnostic algorithm in patients with suspected early AS may help physicians confidently diagnose patients before definite radiographic changes are detectable. Magnetic resonance imaging is a useful imaging modality for detecting early changes of AS. It is critical to make an early diagnosis of AS and in active cases start intensive therapy including anti-TNF-α agents before irreversible damage takes place.
