ABSTRACT
We discuss the problem of osteoporosis, as a very important challenge for health workers as well as the economy. The diagnosis of osteoporosis is frequently overlooked, mainly in the early stage of the disease. We present a review of recent changes in the fields of epidemiology, aetiology, diagnostic management and therapy in the everyday practice of rheumatologists. The pharmacological treatment of osteoporosis with anti-resorptive drugs is also presented.
