ABSTRACT
Osteoporosis is defined as a systemic skeletal disease and the clinical significance of osteoporosis lies in the fractures that arise. General guidance is provided and the following areas are reviewed: assessment of fracture risk, bone mineral density measurement for the diagnosis of osteoporosis, investigation of patients, general and pharmacological management of osteoporosis, monitoring of treatment.
