STRESZCZENIE
Ryzyko rozwoju zakażenia układu moczowego (ZUM) u chorych na reumatoidalne zapalenie stawów (RZS) jest większe niż w podobnej populacji osób zdrowych. W pracy na podstawie wybranych danych z piśmiennictwa przeanalizowano zależności między RZS a ZUM (tab. I). Na wyraźnie częstsze występowanie ZUM u chorych na RZS wpływają zaburzenia immunologiczne wynikające z samej choroby oraz leczenie modyfikujące przebieg choroby lekami syntetycznymi i biologicznymi. Występowanie ZUM w istotny sposób wpływa na zwiększoną umieralność chorych na RZS. W pracy przedstawiono również hipotezę łączącą patogenezę RZS z ZUM wywołanym przez Proteus mirabilis. Szybkie rozpoznanie i leczenie ZUM ma u chorych na RZS bardzo istotne znaczenie z uwagi na zwiększone ryzyko wpływu przewlekania się procesu chorobowego na rozwój amyloidozy oraz zwiększone ryzyko zgonu z powodu ZUM.
